Artist Statement

The interplay between figure and space is what I have been exploring in my work. Spaces are imbued with memory and associations, which allows for the subtle revealing of the psychology of the figure. My work tends to be of myself and my loved ones and moments within our intimate spaces. My paintings and prints begin with a recognition of the value in interacting with those around me. Quiet moments with a loved one or tending to my home are subjects that appear within my work. My prints often have imagery of figures embracing or reclining. Tenderness is important in how I depict my subjects– this is done by carefully considering my subject's context in relation to their surroundings. If I depict a figure resting in an interior landscape color, weight, temperature, and care to the figure are all considerations of how I can honor my experience with them. My mediums are central to my work as both painting and printing processes require a repetition of layering which emphasizes the importance of the subject as they require care and time.
